Hughes Goes Green

Save-A-Ton Recycling Program-
Hughes Middle School needs YOU! Or, at the very least, it needs your aluminum cans and plastic bottles!
This year, Hughes students are working to recycle 2,000 pounds of aluminum cans and plastic bottles — as part of their “Save-A-Ton” project. The project goal is to encourage recycling on campus, in students’ homes, and out in the community at large. In tough times, no one can afford to throw money away, and your contribution of aluminum cans and plastic bottles to “Save-A-Ton” can be a painless but effective way to support a local school, invest in youth, and protect the in the environment. It’s the “Save-A-Ton” Trifecta!
How can you help Hughes and participate in the “Save-A-Ton” project? Drop your aluminum cans and plastic bottles in the especially marked Hughes “Save-A-Ton” recycling bins at any of the following weekly venues:
- “Save-A-Ton,” Hughes Middle School @ Bixby Road Friday mornings, 7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m.
- BKBIA Strollers, It’s A Grind Coffee House, 4245 Atlantic Avenue, Saturday mornings, 7:15 a.m.- 7:30 a.m.
- Long Beach Sunday Market, Longfellow Elementary School, California Avenue @ Bixby Road, Sundays, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Proceeds from “Save-A-Ton” support the landscape projects of the Hughes Green Team, a group of over 70 students working after school to transform the campus into a park-like setting using drought tolerant and native plants, shrubs, and trees.
