Back to Market!

April 10, 2010

After one week off for the Spring Holidays, the market is back.  We are thrilled to have our Sunday Market sponsored by Jeff Price.  He is running for School Board and will be at the market to meet and greet!  Our gal in the 7th is our Sustainable Sundays sponsor every 3rd Sunday and Tonia Reyes Uranga is seeking re-election by write in on the ballot.  She will be around the market shaking hands and kissing babies!!  A hearty good luck to these candidates on the home stretch!  Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday.

We will once again host our Handmade Parade.  A group of California Crafters of Etsy will stop by every 2nd Sunday of the month, which is tomorrow!

In addition to the food and farmers, tomorrow you can visit the following tables:

LBYSO-pick up information about the league and sign up for soccer at the market April 11th, 25th, May 16th, June 6th and 27th.

Long Beach Water Department-A representative from the LB Water will be out to talk about conservation.  There is a lot of excitement in the city with regard to drought tolerant lawns and grants.  This is the time to get rid of those lawns!

Goodwill Shred 4-Good, will stop by and pass out info about their shredding and recycling programs.  Please stop by and tell them how much we would like them to host an event at the market in May!!

Worm Farmer-our very own neighborhood worm farmer!  Leilani lives in the neighborhood and is farming worms for vermiposting bins!!  She is currently the only local supplier of worms.  Don’t mail order worms for your backyard bins.  Stop by and get a lesson, check out sample bins and get started on your own black gold for the garden.

Beyond Bok Choy-please take a look at the selection of greens they are bringing in from Fresno!  All bunches are only $1 and you can fill your crisper with fabulous ingredients for the entire week of sauces, marinades and side dishes!

Frutos Farms-I am looking forward to the best of season strawberries tomorrow.  We are in high season for the ruby gems, and they are best this time of year!  Also, if they have asparagus, grab it!  Might be getting close to the end of the season.

Gama Farms-a new heart healthy breakfast is just plain roasted sweet potatoes!  Salt and a turn or two of pepper and you’re all set.

Park Fruit-Apple Slaw is one of the best for you and tastiest sides of all!  If you have a great dressing – email me so we can share the recipe!!

The full report of this week’s market posted tomorrow night.  Thanks for checking in!  See you out there…
